Loss becomes Birth: An Important Story

Loss becomes Birth

By Melanie Knapp

I was confused and feeling losses of friends that were gone. My family was visiting my parent’s house. I was also sad about some of the missed opportunities that I had with my brother and sister being over; such as conferences, camp, and holidays. It seemed like their new families took top priority and I missed the attention and love I used to have.

I had found myself not functioning that well. I was confused by all of these things and thoughts circled around in my head. With a heavy heart I went to sleep.

I woke in the middle of the night after a particularly interesting prophetic dream; someone whispered to me that my sister-in-law was pregnant. It was an older woman maybe a relative and she nodded her head up in down with a smile. She restated it, ‘Yes your sister-in-law is pregnant with a baby.” I smiled at her.

When I awoke, I also smiled and thought wouldn’t it be nice if that was true. It would be nice if there was an exciting new beginning after a lot of losses I had been sad about.

The next morning my sister-in-law and my brother stood at my doorway. They had big smiles on their faces. I sat up in bed. They said that had something to tell me. They wanted to tell me it before they told the rest of the family. ‘We are expecting a baby,’ they said, with expressive and joyous looks on their faces.

I smiled and told them I had had a dream about the good news they shared. They looked at me strangely and I just smiled secretively, and said “CONGRATULATIONS!”
